Board of Trades responsibilities

• To study current code relevant to the construction advisory board and make recommendations for changes and amendments;
• To review the current codes and potential for updating and adopting new codes to replace or extend the existing code;
• Make recommendations to resolve disputes with code interpretation and establish general policy for enforcement;
• Regularly review and monitor contract licensing and continuing education requirements including any initial licensing requirements, the qualifications for specific individual candidates for licensing and disciplinary action for current license holders.
• To act as the construction board of appeals.
• Except when acting as the construction board of appeals, the board will function in an advisory capacity only. The board's interpretations and recommendation will be subject to the approval of city staff and ultimately the governing body. The board's decisions but not recommendations shall be considered final if not appealed in writing to the governing body within ten days by the aggrieved party or if appealed by the city staff to the governing body within ten days.
• The board shall prioritize matters as requested by the governing body and investigate or not matters as requested by the governing body.

Board of Trades Schedule

Regular Board of Trades meetings are normally held on the second Tuesday of the first month of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Room at the Municipal Building at 400 East Kansas Avenue. Special called meetings shall be for a hearing or action as a result of an appeal requested through the properly prescribed manner on dates outside of regularly scheduled meetings.
