The City of McPherson will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., in the City Commission Chambers, located at 400 E. Kansas Avenue, McPherson, Kansas 67460, for the purpose of evaluating the performance of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) No. 22-HR-007, awarded to the City of McPherson for a Neighborhood Development project within the designated target area.
The target area is generally bounded by Avenue A to the north; South Walnut Street (both sides of the street) to the east; West Avenue F to the south (excluding properties located within the floodplain unless a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) was provided); and the railroad tracks to the west.
The project proposed the rehabilitation of twelve (12) homes, consisting of an estimated six (6) owner-occupied units and six (6) rental units. A total of twelve (12) homes were successfully rehabilitated, including seven (7) owner-occupied units and five (5) rental units.
As part of the Neighborhood Development activities, the project also included the reconstruction of Walnut Street. Existing pavement and base were removed and replaced with an 8-inch compacted aggregate base and 6-inch concrete pavement within a 32-foot-wide roadway. Additional improvements included new curb and gutter to improve drainage, as well as updated ADA-compliant ramps and sidewalks.
This project was funded in whole or in part through the Kansas Department of Commerce Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, with additional contributions from the Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program, local homeowners, and the City of McPherson.
All aspects of the grant will be discussed at the hearing. Oral and written comments will be recorded and will become part of the City of McPherson’s CDBG Citizen Participation Plan.
