McPHERSON — The City of McPherson is excited to introduce McPherson native Eric Duerksen as its next Director of Public Works.
A 2001 graduate of McPherson High School and 2008 graduate of Pittsburg State University, Duerksen brings a wealth of construction, engineering, and project management experience to the department.
Duerksen has been with Hutton Corp. since July of 2014, spending the six years prior to that at Simpson Construction Services, Inc. He began his professional career as a field engineer and project coordinator in 2008.
He spent the last seven years with Hutton as a project manager, overseeing and organizing large-scale building projects in and around McPherson.
Most recently for the City of McPherson, Duerksen was the project manager on the building of Fire Station No. 2 on North Main Street.
The McPherson Director of Public Works oversees the City’s largest budget and covers several areas — including the street department, wastewater treatment facility, planning and zoning, code enforcement and sanitation, building inspection, and engineering.
Duerksen is heavily involved in the community, serving on the board for the McPherson Community Foundation, is an ambassador for the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, and is the vice president and coach in the McPherson City Football Club, a local soccer organization that serves McPherson and the surrounding communities.
Duerksen’s job offer was approved by the McPherson City Commission on July 1, pending pre-employment requirements. He is set to begin the job July 21.
