McPHERSON — The City of McPherson is excited to announce this year’s local Arbor Day Tree Poster winner — Hadley Fisher, a fifth-grader at Eisenhower Elementary School — also has been named the state winner.
Each year, the City of McPherson — a Tree City USA for 47 years — asks local fifth graders to participate in the statewide contest. Local educators are provided with lesson information from the foundation and the Kansas Forest Service and each class is invited to draw a poster themed for that year. This year's theme was “Kansas Trees are Terrific in Cities, Towns and Communities.”
The posters are then turned into the City of McPherson Park Department and voted on by the local Tree/Park Board. The local winner is then sent to the district office. Kansas is composed of four districts with the four district winners entering the state competition.
As the local winner, Fisher’s class is invited to attend the City’s annual Arbor Day celebration, where students will be able to participate in various activities and be able to plant a tree with the City Forester in Lakeside Park.
This year’s activity is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at Lakeside Park Shelter #3.
