Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The United States Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) allocates funds used by the Kansas Department of Commerce for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehabilitation program. The City of McPherson has been awarded a $300,000 CDBG grant from Commerce for the purpose of housing rehabilitation within a target area during 2018. Funds will be designated toward 11 home rehabilitations and two demolitions. This is the second award received in recent years. The 2016 CDBG award resulted in 13 home rehabilitations and three demolitions.

The CDBG housing program is specifically designed to provide housing rehabilitation for low- to moderate-income individuals. The current target area is defined as “an area bound by 1st Street on the south, west to Main Street, north on Main Street to Hulse Street, then east on Hulse Street to Wheeler Street; south on Wheeler Street including both sides of the street, south to Loomis Street, then east on Loomis street, including both sides of the street, to the alley between Barber Street and Myers Street, then south in the alley to the southern border at 1st Street.”
