Richard grew up in McPherson and graduated from McPherson Senior High School in 1988. He then attended Washburn University of Topeka where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration. Richard has served the City of McPherson since 2003 where he began as an Engineer Tech and Certified Inspector for the Engineering Department. In 2012, he began as the Assistant Finance Director then served as Interim Finance Director in 2019 and then again in 2021. Richard has served as the Finance Director since January of 2024. In his free time he enjoys traveling with his wife and spending time with five children and two grandchildren, hunting & fishing or anything outdoors.
Richard’s compassion for the community he grew up in is what drives him and he works diligently with Commission to provide capital and operating budget oversight, financial analysis, and evaluation. His favorite part of the job is working with Commission and Department Heads to provide a financial pathway to ensure our City’s Strategic Plans are accomplished through efficient and conservative financial planning.
