McPHERSON — On Tuesday morning, July 26, 2022, the City of McPherson City Commission adopted new hours for the McPherson Water Park for the remainder of the swim season.
The facility — a joint operation between the City and the McPherson Recreation Commission — has continued to face staff shortages, particularly lifeguards. It’s part of a nationwide problem that has plagued numerous aquatic centers.
To close out the season, the water park will remain closed on Mondays and new hours for Tuesday through Friday will be 1 to 5 p.m. On Saturday, the park will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 6 p.m.
Those hours will begin Friday, July 29 and run through the end of the year. The pool closes for the season Aug. 14.
Evening water exercise and walking will be offered from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and the park will be open from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for water walking and lap swim.
Questions or concerns can be directed to Public Lands & Facilities Director Wayne Burns at 620-245-2535 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
