2020 Project Updates

Public Works Department Ι City of McPherson

Improving McPherson’s street infrastructure in an ongoing process. Project Updates 2020 provides timely information about specific projects. The intent is to keep residents informed about current projects, street closings, detours, and progress. Project details and timelines can change depending on weather or project conditions. Hartup Street/Elizabeth Street Reconstruction Project

Project Description or Location

Hartup Street from Avenue A to Kansas Avenue; Elizabeth Street from Hartup Street to South Park Street; Hartup Street from Kansas Avenue to East Marlin Street. The project includes sanitary sewer extensions from Hartup Street from Hancock Street to Elizabeth Street and Grand Avenue from Elizabeth Street to Hancock Street. The projects are being constructed simultaneously.

Street Closures & Detours

  • South Hartup Street from Ave. A to Hancock Street closed to through traffic, local access from Ave. A, and E. Hancock Street.
  • From approximately 500 feet north Avenue A, to approximately 700 feet south of Hancock St. is closed.
  • The Seitz Street Intersection at S. Hartup St. is Closed.
  • The adjacent portion of the intersection, to the west side of S. Hartup at Seitz Street, will remain in place for parking.

Projected Street Closures & Detours

  • Tentative; Monday – September 14, 2020
  • The contractor will close the west side of Seitz St. to approximately 100 feet to the west.
  • The contractor will close the section from Avenue A, to approximately 400 feet north on S. Hartup St. for the final section of construction.

Project Update

  • No work on project this week due to wet weather.


CHAMPLIN STREET EXTENSION

Project Description or Location

Street extension north of Burger King’s north entrance north for 327 feet in front of the new Best Western property.

GRIMES STREET/ANNA STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

Project Description or Location

Drainage issues and street reconstruction will be addressed along Grimes Street. Improvements include new curb and gutter and a storm sewer pipe, which will carry water down Anna Street to be dumped into the ditch near McPherson High School.

Street Closures & Detours

  • Anna St closed west of Wheeler St to Grimes St
  • Grimes St closed from Anna St to Loomis St
  • The intersection of Grimes St and Hulse St closed

Construction Progress

  • Work this week:
    • Minimal site cleanup
    • RCP extension to ditch on Grimes St., north of Hulse St.
  • Work next week:
    • Remove tree stump at the northwest corner of Grimes St. and Loomis St.
    • Touchup seeding on Grimes St.
    • General site cleanup

Projected Street Closures & Detours

HULSE DRAINAGE PROJECT

Project Description or Location

Ditch improvements from Main Street near Tractor Supply to 1st Street adjacent to McPherson High School. Seven box culverts will be replaced and retaining walls and ditch lining will be installed in critical areas along the channel.

Street Closures & Detours

  • Hulse Street to remain closed to thru traffic until work in the area is complete.
  • Wheeler North of Hulse was closed on Tuesday to begin the removal of existing RCB.
  • Crescent remains closed North of Hulse. The Crescent RCB was completed on Wednesday of this week.

Construction Progress

  • Crews were able to install some of the erosion blanket along North High on Monday before the rain moved in.
  • All streets and sidewalks are open at this time.

CHESTNUT STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Project Description or Location

We will widen the existing roadway to 32’ back of curb to back of curb, install street drainage and mill and overlay the street. The project was awarded to Conspec Inc. dba Kansas Paving, Wichita Contract amount $558,324.50 of that, $220,000 was funded with a CDBG grant. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.

Street Closures & Detours

This project will go from Avenue “C” to the South End of the street.

Construction Progress

  • Rain and weather slowed progress this week. However, the weather forecast for next week looks very good so by the end of next week the contractor should have almost all the curb and gutter along with the driveways on the west side of the street completed.
  • The week of the 21st all the homeowners should have use of their driveways again. There is still asphalt work to be completed on the street so please be careful around the equipment.
