The City's Public Works Department services the needs of the community in the realm of engineering, streets, storm water, and sanitary sewer issues. The department is divided into four divisions to help accomplish the duties assigned to the department. The four divisions are listed below with a link to each to provide you with additional information.
The administration arm of the department handles the day to day activities of the department. They ensure that each of the division are supplied with the resources necessary to accomplish the duties assigned to them.
The administration division is based in City Hall at 400 E. Kansas Avenue.
The engineering division is responsible for providing technical assistance to other division in the department and other departments in the City. This division is involved with most city capital projects due to the experience of the people in the department. This division also works with outside developers when planning new city infrastructure such as new sewer lines, streets, and storm water collection systems.
The engineering division is based in City Hall at 400 E. Kansas Avenue.
While there is no formal stormwater division, the city has been required to meet new storm water regulations established by the federal and state governments. Staff from the Administration, Engineering, and Wastewater divisions share the duties required by these regulations.
The personnel dealing with storm water related issues are located in City Hall at 400 E. Kansas Avenue.
The street division is responsible for a multitude of different tasks, but the main responsibility involves the maintenance of streets in the City. The division also is responsible for snow removal, street signs, and pavement markings. This division also assists all other divisions in public works and other departments when requested.
The street division is based at the street workshop located at 418 N. Oak Street.
The wastewater division is responsible for the collection and treatment of sanitary sewer waste for the community. This includes the maintenance of all lines, manholes, and pump stations along with the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant.
The treatment plant is located at 1400 Treatment Plant Road.
