Representatives from the City of McPherson and the City’s architect GLMV recently attended the Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review in Topeka to provide support and input for the nomination of the McPherson Community Building to the State Historic Register and subsequent National Historic Register. The request was one of six Kansas properties and districts reviewed.
The board unanimously approved historic designation for the McPherson Community Building, which qualifies the City to apply for Historic Tax Credits. An application has been submitted and the City anticipates receiving feedback within one week. If approved, the Kansas State Historic Tax Credits could amount to a 30 percent tax credit that would be made available to interested parties. Tax credits could provide approximately $1 million in construction finance assistance for the Community Building renovation project. Updates will be provided as available.
