Middle School Traffic

Dear Parents:

Another school year and another year of frustration on the streets surrounding the Middle School. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be courteous, patient and vigilant. We need to be courteous to other parents picking up their own students, patient with law enforcement and school administration looking out for the safety of our students, and vigilant with our own attitudes as we pick up our students from school.

We also want to remind parents to pick up 6th graders on the east side of the school on Park Street, 7th graders on the north side on Elizabeth Street and 8th graders on the west side on Hartup Street. Double parking, stopping, or standing are not safe ways to pick up your students as it increases the chances of your student or vehicle being struck by backing vehicles or oncoming traffic and it increases congestion. Congested roadways put all of our students in danger as it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to get to the school quickly. Please consider this when you stop for even "a few minutes" to pick up your student. Instead, for safety and to avoid ticketsfind a parking stall or drive until one opens up or consider the possibilty of creating a meeting place within a few blocks of the middle school. Thank you for your courtesy, patience and vigilance as school administration, law enforcement and parents work together to keep our roadways open and our students safe.

Parking tickets with the exception of handicap parking are $15 dollars, handicap parking violations are $75 dollars.

Be safe and drive courteously. A reminder from Chief Dennis Shaw and all the members of the McPherson Police Department.
